🎨 How to color it

Color the cactus mint green, the flower crown in pink, yellow, and lavender, the wavy pot terracotta, and the smiling sun golden. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the cactus ribs and rolling desert hills, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the tiny cactus spines and flower centers. Try making each pot wave a different sunset color, like orange, coral, and peach, so the handmade planter feels extra special.

The story behind this coloring page

Every day, Zadie pressed tiny paper flowers around her clay pot and waited for the sun to make petal-shadows in the sand. She called it Shadow-Flower, a game she had made with her own careful snips. The desert wash smelled warm and dusty, and beetles clicked, click-click, as they came to watch.

Until one day, a puff of wind whisked the flowers away. Because of that, Zadie caught them on her prickles. Because of that, she lifted her arms and turned slowly, making a whole crown of dancing shadows. “I made a new rule,” she whispered. Finally, the sun smiled low, and Zadie’s handmade game bloomed all around her; can you find the crown that started with her careful snips?
