🎨 How to color it

Layer the soccer ball panels in graphite gray and deep black, make the repeated cleats cobalt blue, and pick marigold yellow for the starbursts among the paisley curls. Use sharp colored pencils and color one ring at a time, rotating the page so the tiny studs and mirrored flourishes stay crisp. For a handmade trophy feel, add a soft teal-to-violet gradient behind the outer floral arcs while keeping the thick ball seams high-contrast.

Behind the last stall of the market arcade, where rain ticked on the glass roof like fingernails, Cass cut a circle from scrap leather and dared herself to make a club crest before the tower clock chimed twelve. Not a crest to buy. Not one stamped by a factory. Her own. She pressed old cleat studs around the edge, painted curls with a needle-thin brush, and held her breath whenever the ink smelled too sharp and began to spread.

Then the gold paint ran out. Of course it did. Cass could have quit and called the blank center “modern,” which is what people say when they are stuck. Instead, she slipped from the warm stall into the closed arcade, past shuttered cheese shops and sleeping flower buckets, trading her last lemon bun to the watchman for a pinch of brass dust from his key rag. “Secret for secret,” he whispered.

Back at the bench, Cass mixed the dust into clear glue. It did not shine like bought paint. It glowed unevenly, like something that had traveled through pockets, locks, and hands. When the clock struck, her crest was not perfect. It was better: a small, stubborn thing she had made herself, ringed with old studs, while rain ticked on the glass roof like fingernails.
