🎨 How to color it

Color the player’s jersey bright red, his shorts navy blue, the soccer ball classic black and white, and the big “WHOOPS!” bubble sunny yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the goal net’s tiny squares and the jersey stripes, then switch to broader strokes for the open grass and sky. For a funny twist, make the spinning stars and swirl marks rainbow-colored so the missed kick looks extra dramatic.

Behind the community center, Felix tucked a soccer ball under his arm and whispered, “This one needs a finish.” He wanted a cheer big enough for everyone at the mini pitch to copy, so he practiced his newest move: hop, flop, leg up, grin. The grass smelled sharp and green. His cleats squeaked against the dusty line, and every time he missed, he shouted, “Whoops!” so loudly the pigeons on the fence bobbed their heads.

The game grew sillier. A toe tap became a moon kick. A knee bounce became a noodle dance. Felix leaped for a bicycle kick, wind whooshing past his ears, and the ball sailed nowhere near his foot. Instead, his heel tapped the old wooden goalpost. Pop! A shower of tiny paper suns burst from a knothole nobody had ever noticed, followed by a rolled-up note that smelled like crayons: FOR BIG JOY, STOMP TWICE.

Felix landed in a tangle, laughing so hard his cheeks hurt. He stomped twice. From inside the post came kazoo music—brap, brap, braaaap—and kids from the swings ran over to join the cheer. Soon every miss got a stomp, every stomp got a kazoo, and every “Whoops!” turned into a parade. If you spot Felix mid-flop, you may find the secret knothole waiting for one more big finish.
