Before the gates opened, Nori padded through the flag garden with one cheer tucked in his chest. He had made a small challenge: no barking until he found the quietest helper at the field. The grass tickled his paws, and the net went hush-hush in the morning wind.
He sat by the ball and listened. The star flags flapped, the trees whispered, and far away a broom went swish behind the stands. Then Nori saw it: a little star flag had slipped crooked, still trying to shine for everyone.
“Woof,” Nori said softly, just once. The groundskeeper looked up, smiled, and straightened the flag. Nobody clapped. Nobody saw. But the field felt brighter, and if you peek at the star banners, one may still be holding Nori’s saved cheer.
