🎨 How to color it

Try deep teal for the soccer ball’s outer seams, marigold and coral for the flower panels, and indigo, sage, and plum through the paisley background. Use sharp colored pencils and color one panel at a time, following the thick black soccer seams as natural borders before tackling the tiny curls. For a polished twist, make the central star fade from pale gold at the points to burnt orange near the middle, then keep the surrounding swirls cooler.

Every evening, Quinn inked curls into old soccer panels above the broom closet, wanting one ball that sounded handmade when it rolled: hush, tick, rasp. Until one day, a fox in a referee’s scarf sprang through the loft window carrying a stolen thunderclap in a jam jar. Because of that, Quinn’s pen jumped, and a starburst splashed across the center seam; because of that, the fox sneezed sparks onto every paisley and flower. Finally, laughing despite the singed smell, Quinn stitched the panels tight, and the ball rolled away with a proud hush, tick, rasp.
