🎨 How to color it

Try golden yellow for the sunflower petals, deep olive for the layered leaves and stem, sky blue for the cloud panes, and warm amber for the small sun. Use sharp colored pencils and work outward from the tiny circular seed-center rings so your hand does not smudge the narrow mosaic pieces. For a glowing-window effect, make the petals shift from lemon near the tips to orange near the center while keeping the border leaves in cooler greens.

Every day, Keturah climbed the tower stairs before dawn and set a plain copper washer on the sill, exactly where her mother’s hand had worn it smooth. She cleaned the sunflower window one pane at a time, listening to the cloth whisper over lead and smelling rain caught in the stone. The center stayed dull, no matter how long she waited.

Until one day, the washer rolled into a crack between two floorboards. Because of that, Keturah pried up the board and found a sliver of yellow glass wrapped in old paper. Because of that, she set it into the empty heart just as evening arrived. Finally, the low sun passed through, and the room filled with patient gold, circling back to the sill where the plain copper washer waited.
