Under the fairground lights, Jax rolled Boltcrash toward the empty practice ramp, pencil stuck behind one ear and a map taped to the dash. He wanted to chart a brand-new stunt path before the gates opened, so he listened to every rattle: clank from the springs, whirr from the fan, thump-thump from the giant tires on packed dirt.
He climbed the ramp once, then again, each leap landing with a puff that smelled like warm rubber and popcorn. “One more clue,” Jax said, tapping the steering wheel. The engine answered with a strange purr, not from under the hood but from the ramp itself: vroom-vroom… left.
Jax followed the sound and found three tiny flag mice inside a hollow board, waving scraps of blue cloth like signal flags. They had been measuring wind all morning and wanted a ride on the boldest route. So Jax steered where their flags fluttered, soaring over the tire stacks in a trail of golden dust. Next time you spot those little flags, wonder which way the ramp is whispering: vroom-vroom… left.
