🎨 How to color it

Color the superhero suit bright cobalt blue, the cape cherry red, the heart emblem ruby, and the #1 Dad trophy shiny gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the small stars inside the chest badge and trophy lettering, then switch to markers for the broad cape and banner. Try a sunrise fade behind the curved Father’s Day banner so the white stars pop like party lights.

Every day after school, Bren practiced raising his thumb in the mirror until it looked steady, then polished the gold trophy for the Father’s Day parade stage. The metal smelled like pennies and lemon cloth. He wanted to press the big red signal button this year, but his knees buzzed whenever the marching band tested its drums.

Until one day, the button box snapped shut with a clack and would not open. Because of that, the banner ropes stayed slack. Because of that, the star balloons bumped the ceiling and the crowd began chanting, “Dads! Dads! Dads!” Bren hugged the trophy to his chest and heard a tiny rattle inside its base.

He turned it over. Under the #1 Dad sticker, where nobody had ever looked, was a little silver switch. “I can do one small brave thing,” Bren whispered. Click! The banner flew up, horns blasted, and Dad caught the trophy as Bren’s thumb rose, almost steady. If you spot the trophy, can you keep the secret of the little silver switch that smelled like pennies and lemon cloth?
