🎨 How to color it

Color the strawberry ruby red, the sweeping icing ribbons creamy white, the leafy crown bright green, and the small hearts rosy pink. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow ribbon edges and seed ovals, then fill the larger berry sections with smooth, even strokes. Try shading the icing ribbons from pale peach to white so they look like glossy swirls wrapped around the fruit.

Under the lantern trees, Elara rolled a silver ribbon of sugar between two leaves, trying to make one perfect braid before the bell-crickets stopped singing. The ribbon smelled like warm vanilla and stuck to her fingertips. Nobody else was awake, except the little night daisies closing their petals along the path.

A hush moved through the grove. One by one, the lanterns dimmed. A tiny voice whispered, “The fireflies are hungry.” Elara had planned to keep the ribbon for the festival crown, but she tore off a soft strip and laid it across the dark grass. Then another. The fireflies sipped without a sound, and their bellies lit gold again.

By dawn, thin ribbons looped all around Elara, left where she had shared them in the dark. The other berries woke and thought the swirls were festival magic. Ever since, strawberries in the lantern grove have worn sweet white swirls, because Elara fed the light when nobody was watching—can you find the little hearts that kept her secret?
