🎨 How to color it

Try rose pink leotards for the three dancers, honey-blond buns, pale blue mirror glass, and warm tan wooden floorboards. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow floor planks, barre rails, window panes, and ceiling light edges so the studio lines stay crisp. Add a mischievous twist by making each black X mark a different bright color, as if the practice spots are secretly part of a game.

The story behind this coloring page

Every afternoon, Wren stepped onto the black tape X, lifted one arm, and copied the row in the mirror while the ceiling lights buzzed like sleepy bees. She wanted to make it through the whole combination without scooting even one shoe off her mark. Then, one Tuesday, her X wrinkled, wiggled, and skittered three inches left. A tiny green gecko popped out from under the tape with dust on his nose.

“Pardon,” he squeaked. “Is this the hopscotch room?” Because of that, Wren’s toe landed where her heel was supposed to be, and the other dancers nearly bumped elbows. Because of THAT, the gecko dragged all three Xs into a crooked trail, chattering, “Much better for adventure!” Wren’s cheeks burned hot, but she took one small breath that smelled of floor polish and old rosin.

Finally, she tapped the floor twice. “Follow my count.” She danced to the runaway marks: step, point, glide, giggle. The gecko froze, amazed, and the class finished in a perfect zigzag. Next time you spot those Xs under the dancers, check whether one looks ready to skitter again.
