🎨 How to color it

Try slate blue and charcoal for the wolf’s patterned coat, deep evergreen for the pines, pale gold for the sun rays, and lavender-gray for the spiral clouds. Use sharp colored pencils and fill the wolf’s tiny feathers, curls, and scale-like sections from the outside edges inward so your hand does not smudge finished details. For a mischievous twist, make one sunbeam unexpectedly rainbow-striped while keeping the eclipse moon almost white.

By lantern-smell and cold pine air, Orson pressed his paw-made stamp into a flat cake of soot and tried to print one neat moon on a scrap of birch bark. The challenge was simple: no ruler, no compass, no chewing the handle when the circle went wobbly. Around him, the summit glittered with frost. He added rays, dots, clouds, and a proud little curl that looked, if he tilted his head, almost intentional.

The sky answered with a soft thump.

Orson looked up. High above the black trees, the eclipse had arrived wearing every mark he had carved: the crooked ray, the freckled stars, even the silly curl he had blamed on a sneeze. A warm, ridiculous pride rose through his paws. “Well,” he said, tail twitching, “I suppose the heavens have excellent taste.” He lifted his muzzle and howled, not to summon anything, but to sign his work in the cold pine air.
