🎨 How to color it

Try a candy-apple red body for the 1970 muscle car, chrome silver bumpers and grille, black tires, orange cones, and a gold trophy. Use sharp colored pencils for the narrow grille bars, wheel spokes, rope posts, and tiny crowd silhouettes so the car-show details stay crisp. Add a pale blue-gray wash to the exhibition hall floor and banners to make the red car and gold cup pop forward.

Every afternoon after school, Vera visited the old auto expo and played her own game: guess the day’s secret champion before the announcer said it. She never crossed the velvet ropes. She sniffed warm tire rubber, listened for engines ticking cool, and counted clues like a detective with greasy fingers.

One Saturday, a silver tag on a cone read, “MC-1970,” but the trophy beside it wore a tiny paper mustache. Because of that, Vera checked the banners, the hood scoop, and the rope posts for more jokes. Because of THAT, she found arrows drawn in dust leading from one muscle car to another, then to a napkin tucked under the big cup.

“Who made the trophy sneeze?” Vera whispered. The napkin said: CHAMPION HAS FOUR ROUND EYES. Finally, she spotted the car’s twin headlights staring proudly from the platform. The announcer laughed, blamed the mischievous mechanics’ club, and let Vera announce the winner. Next time you see that gold cup up front, check whether the mustache came back.
