Under the warm skatepark sun, Ozzy tugged his cap backward and set himself a tiny test: one smooth roll, three funny echoes. Clack went his wheels on the lip. “That’s one!” he sang. The concrete smelled dusty and hot, and the railings made thin shadows like ladder rungs. He swooped down, knees bent, hoodie strings bouncing. Whirr-r-r went the board. “That’s two!”
At the top of the curve, Ozzy leaned out his arms and waited for echo three. Instead, a squeaky voice under the ramp piped, “Make it four!” Ozzy blinked, then laughed so hard his wheels chattered.
