🎨 How to color it

Color the duck buttery yellow, the bow tie robin’s-egg blue, the patterned egg with coral stars, teal stripes, and lavender swirls, and the meadow flowers pink and orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the egg’s narrow bands, little circles, stars, and spiral curls so the pattern stays crisp. Try making the egg brightest on the sunny side, with slightly deeper versions of each color along the lower right edge.

The story behind this coloring page

Arlo’s Egg of Echoes — Every day, before the hilltop meadow warmed, Arlo tapped his beak against the striped egg and listened. Read the full story →

Every day, before the hilltop meadow warmed, Arlo tapped his beak against the striped egg and listened. The egg gave back tiny sounds it had saved: bee-buzz, tulip-swish, cloud-shadow hush. Arlo’s blue bow tie twitched each time, because the egg had been painted by every bird who ever sang on the hill, and he wanted to keep its voices safe for the Dawn Chorus.

Until one morning, the chorus tree stood silent. No finches. No wrens. Only the sun climbing through thin clouds and the dry grass making a scratchy whisper. Because of that, Arlo rolled the egg to the highest patch of clover, bump-bump, careful over roots. Because of that, the egg’s stars flashed, its spirals hummed, and all the stored songs poured out at once—soft as feathers, bright as bells.

“Come hear what you left behind!” Arlo called. Wings flickered from the far trees, and soon every bird added one fresh note to the old ones. The joy grew too big for Arlo’s chest, so he let the meadow keep singing. If you spot the starry egg beside him, you’ll know it is still saving bee-buzz, tulip-swish, and cloud-shadow hush.
