All week, a plain brass button rode in Nico’s cup holder, click-clicking whenever he dreamed of campfire songs. He wanted one warm spark to take home, a glow for rainy nights in the garage. So he hitched the round camper and rolled past whispery grass toward the pine camp.
The road dipped and bumped. Plink! The button bounced out near a stump. Nico stopped, tires crunching pebbles, and gave his last dry match to a shivering tent family. “You can have our fire,” he beeped softly.
