Between the elbowing corals of the reef arcade, Nico tapped one claw on a flat stone: tik-tik-tik. He had given himself a splendidly silly challenge—blow one bubble so round that every fish, sponge, and shy worm would see it before it popped. He puffed through a twisty shell. Blorp! The bubble wobbled away, smelling faintly of salt and breakfast kelp.
It drifted past ferny seaweed and a row of tube sponges. Nico scuttled after it, waving both claws like a parade captain. “Keep going, you shiny wobble!” he called. Little fish followed, snickering silver flashes. The bubble bumped a coral knob, bounced, and somehow grew bigger, rounder, and louder.
Then Nico heard it: not a pop, but his own giggle rolling inside the bubble—hee-hee-honk! Every creature it passed began laughing too, until the reef arcade shook with joy. Nico lifted his claws higher, sharing the sound on purpose now, and next time you spot the bubbles above him, don’t they seem ready to hee-hee-honk?
