From the warm straw, a soft clink-clink kept bothering Bramble. She wanted one spicy pine sprig for the little brass bell on her neck, the bell she had worn since her first snowy Christmas. Outside the stall, the barn smelled cold and clean, and snow tapped the window like tiny hooves. Bramble stepped past the stockings, past the candle, and pushed her nose into the dark feed room. “Just one sprig,” she whispered.
A shadow rustled. Bramble froze, and her bell gave one brave clink. Out crept a shivering barn kitten with a red ribbon caught on a nail. Bramble tugged the ribbon free, but the pine sprig pricked her nose—snip! She carried it back anyway, with the kitten tucked against her warm side. When the bell jingled under the wreath, every animal answered from the straw. Next time you see Bramble’s pine sprig, can you spot the bell that called her home?
