🎨 How to color it

Color the fox a rusty orange with a creamy white tail tip, make the Santa hat cranberry red, and give the lantern a warm golden glow beside deep green pine needles. Use sharp colored pencils for the pine needles, holly leaves, bark lines, and tiny snow dots, then switch to smoother strokes on the fox’s big tail. Try shading the hollow log with two browns so the hidden rings look like a secret tunnel in the snow.

The story behind this coloring page

The Log That Whispered Back — Each evening, Rook chased the lantern sparks that skipped from Ranger Bell’s camp like fireflies made of cinnamon. Read the full story →

Each evening, Rook chased the lantern sparks that skipped from Ranger Bell’s camp like fireflies made of cinnamon. He wanted to catch one in his mitten pouch before the first Christmas howl, but the sparks always zipped over the snow and winked out among the firs. Then one night, a spark dove straight into a hollow log and whispered, “Tap twice.”

Because of that, Rook thumped the bark with his paw, and the log gave a tiny wooden clack. Because of THAT, a round knot slid open, spilling out a rolled map that smelled of pine sap and smoke. The map showed pawprints racing past the lantern, under holly, around three cones, and back to the log before moonrise.

Rook ran so fast his scarf snapped like a flag. At every mark, he found another spark waiting, brighter and bossier, until finally they all swirled into the log’s dark middle and lit a hidden bell no one had thought to check. Its jingle called the whole fir camp to the Christmas howl. Next time you spot Rook’s curled tail by that log, dare yourself to find where the whisper began.
