🎨 How to color it

Layer tawny ocher through the lion’s coat, deepen his flowing mane with burnt sienna and dark umber, tint the acacia crowns olive green, and keep the distant elephants a soft warm gray. Use sharp pencils for the mane’s engraved strands and the cliff’s crosshatching, building from light pressure to darker shadow so the printed linework stays crisp. For a mischievous twist, blend a faint lavender-to-peach sky inside the swirling cloud bands and hide one tiny gold glint among the lion’s whisker dots.

At the high ledge, Thabo kept a very serious record of unserious winds. The morning breeze smelled of sun-warmed stone, elephant dust, and far-off rain, so he stood still while it combed his mane into grand, ridiculous banners. Each gust earned a name: Spoon-Turner, Beetle-Tickler, Cloud-With-Too-Many-Elbows. He scratched the names into a flat rock with one claw, chuckling whenever a bird squeaked past sideways.

By noon, his list had grown so long that curiosity began tugging him by the tail. A small wind slipped under his chin and made his whiskers tremble in a pattern he had not written down. Thabo lowered his nose to the rock. There, hidden among his own careful scratches, was a neat little sentence made by whisker tips tapping dust: YOU MISSED THE WIND BEHIND YOUR EAR.

He turned one amber eye, slowly, with all the dignity a lion can gather while being corrected by his face. The secret breeze puffed out from behind his ear with a soft pffft, carrying the dry, grassy smell of the plains below. Thabo added one final entry, larger than the rest: Ear-Pocket Giggle. Then he let the wind comb his mane again, back into grand, ridiculous banners.
