At the top of the east balcony, with warm stone under her slippers and bell music drifting up from the courtyard, Zinnia held her wand like a conductor’s baton. She had set herself one serious royal challenge: draw a perfect sky-squiggle without making the stars hiccup. “No sneezing, no wobbling,” she told the wand, which hummed like a bee in a teacup.
She flicked left, curled right, and dotted the air with silver sparks. The clouds smelled faintly of rain and sugar biscuits from the bakery chimneys below. Zinnia tried again, adding a loop so fancy it made her crown tilt. A row of little stars followed, not perfect, but delightfully curly.
Then the castle flags began doing the same thing. Every banner on every tower curled, dipped, and waved Zinnia’s squiggle back at her, as if the whole castle had been practicing in secret. She burst into giggles and gave one grand final flick. If you peek at the towers, you may catch the flags still showing off her sky-squiggle.
