🎨 How to color it

Color the teacher’s cardigan sky blue, her name badge bright yellow, the shape blocks red, green, purple, and orange, and the classroom cubbies warm tan. Use sharp colored pencils for the ABC letters, tiny books, backpack straps, and the teacher’s glasses, then fill the larger cardigan and whiteboard areas with smooth, even strokes. Try making the window sky fade from pale blue near the sun to a deeper blue at the top, so the bright blocks feel extra playful.

The story behind this coloring page

The Box That Hummed — Before the first bell, Ms. Nora lined up the circle, triangle, and star blocks on the low table, listening to the soft thunk of wood on wood. Read the full story →

Before the first bell, Ms. Nora lined up the circle, triangle, and star blocks on the low table, listening to the soft thunk of wood on wood. Sunlight slid across the cubbies, warming the backpacks until the room smelled like crayons, paper, and apple soap. She wanted the class to wonder about shapes before they even sat down, so she set the last cube on top and whispered, “What question are you hiding?”

The blocks answered with the faintest hum. Not a machine hum. More like a bee thinking inside a seashell. Ms. Nora tilted her head. The sound came from the plain square block, the one everyone used as a roof or a step and never as the important part.

When she lifted it, a tiny folded map slipped from a secret flap no one had noticed. It showed the classroom from above, but the desks were islands, the bookshelf was a cliff, and the sunny window was marked: START HERE. By morning meeting, every shape had become a place on the map, and every question ran ahead to the next one. If you find the plain square, can you hear the little hum hiding where nobody thought to look?
