With his helmet snug and his boots going stomp-stomp, Dax tapped his clipboard and invented a brand-new game: Beep Parade. Every time a smoke alarm chirped, he would make a marching sound to match it. “Beep, clap, stomp!” he called, and the morning smelled like cut grass and warm roof shingles. The porch flag fluttered as if it wanted a turn.
At the first house, the alarm gave one bright peep. Dax clapped once. The hydrant’s chain jingled once. Then the chimney smoke curled up in three soft wiggles—one, two, three—and the clouds seemed to answer with round, puffy shapes. Soon the flowers bobbed, the leaves shook, and Dax shared the rhythm down the walk. Next time you spot his raised finger by the alarm sign, can you hear the whole Beep Parade going stomp-stomp again?
