🎨 How to color it

Layer the castle stones in warm ivory and pale gray, the fountain in weathered aqua, the roses in deep coral, and the daisies in golden yellow. Use sharp pencils for the tiny window tracery, banners, flower centers, and brick path, then switch to softer side-strokes for the sunbeams and distant hills. Try a quiet sunrise gradient behind the towers so the floral border feels like it is holding the light in place.

Every morning, Sable crossed the wet stone court before the fountain began to speak, counting how many sunbeams reached the castle roses before the bells warmed the air. She had invented a game for patient hands: place one petal on the fountain rim for each beam, then wait until the water chose which petal to carry. Most days, the petals only circled, soft as silk and smelling faintly of rain.

Until one day, the sixth petal did not circle. It slipped through the falling water and rested against a carved shell Sable had dusted a hundred times. Because of that, she stayed past breakfast, listening to the fountain’s thin silver tapping. Because of that, she noticed the shell opened only when the sun struck the highest flag and the lowest rose at once.

At last, a narrow ribbon of light ran from tower to fountain, and inside the shell lay a folded note, dry as pressed lavender: Waited long enough. Plant the moon-white seeds at dusk. Sable smiled, and when evening cooled the stones, she tucked the seeds beneath the roses she had counted by sunbeam.
