🎨 How to color it

Color the gardener’s overalls denim blue, the hanging ferns bright emerald, the tulips rosy pink, and the greenhouse door a soft sage green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny leaves on the roof panels and ivy vines, then switch to markers for larger flowerpots and table planks. Try making the watering hose a cheerful yellow so it winds through the plants like a secret path.

The story behind this coloring page

Kestrel’s Whisper-Water Game — Behind the warm glasshouse door, where wet soil smelled like pennies and rain, Kestrel held the hose and invented a game no one else knew about. Read the full story →

Behind the warm glasshouse door, where wet soil smelled like pennies and rain, Kestrel held the hose and invented a game no one else knew about. She called it Whisper-Water: every thirsty plant got a secret name, and she had to water it before the name faded from her tongue. “Ferny Finch, Petal Pocket, Ivy Sneak,” she whispered, safe beside the potting table.

Then she spotted the moonflower, still curled tight in the far corner under the hanging baskets. To reach it, she had to pass the strip of floor that always groaned like a giant clearing its throat. Kestrel’s toes squeezed inside her boots. She stepped anyway. Crrrreak. The hose bumped a clay pot, cold water splashed her socks, and the ivy leaves shivered against her sleeve.

The moonflower drank with a soft glug-glug, and one pale petal loosened. Kestrel carried back more than a wet-foot squish; she had a new rule for the game: the best secret names waited past the creaky part. Next time you spot the curling hose, keep Kestrel’s secret—Whisper-Water begins where the warm glasshouse door closes.
