🎨 How to color it

Try smoky lavender for the rabbit’s faceted body, deep emerald for the pines and leafy border, pale gold for the moon dial, and icy blue for the crystals. Use sharp colored pencils and color one polygon at a time, turning the page as you follow the rabbit’s angular planes and the nested rings above. For a quiet secret, shade the small circle inside the dial brighter than the outer rings, as if it is holding a signal meant only for the rabbit.

Under the pine-dark edge of the prism woods, Sable kept a cloudy glass token tucked beneath his forepaw, warm from his own pulse. He wanted one clean beam of moonlight through it before dawn, the way his sister had shown him years ago, so he left the dry hollow and stepped among leaves that clicked like thin ice. The old moon dial waited beyond the trees, its rings pale and silent, but halfway there he found the guide mark on the trail stone gone black. No traveler would see the turn toward safe ground.

Sable held the token up. Moonlight gathered, then thinned; the glass would crack if he fixed the mark with it. Resin-scented wind moved through the firs. He pressed the token to the cold stone anyway, and a small sound—tik—ran through the woods. The guide mark glowed, not bright, just enough. The token split into six dull pieces.

On the way home, Sable carried no keepsake, only a faint gold dust on his paw pads. Behind him, someone unseen found the turn. Ahead, his hollow was still dry and dark, but when he stepped inside, the floor answered with one clean beam of moonlight.
