🎨 How to color it

Color the gingerbread house warm cookie brown, the dripping icing snowy white, the candy-cane posts red and white, and the gumdrops cherry, lemon, and grape. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the big roof and wall spaces, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the tiny sprinkles, wreath, and peppermint spirals. Try making the gumdrop path alternate colors like a secret code leading right to the wreath on the door.

Under the peppermint moon, Nell carried a plain tin ring through the candy clearing. It had belonged to her baker aunt, and it clinked softly whenever snow-sugar touched it. Nell wanted to find why it kept whispering, “Front door, front door,” but the path split between gumdrops, and every gumdrop looked like a small sleeping hat.

At the gingerbread house, cinnamon smell curled from the windows. The tin ring jumped from Nell’s mitten and stuck to the door with a bright tap. Sprinkles rolled out of the roof icing, berries popped from the candy bushes, and a bow tied itself with a swish. “So that’s your secret,” Nell said.

Ever since, gingerbread houses wear wreaths on their doors, because the first one needed a round little sign to tell curious feet they had found the sweetest way in. If you trace the gumdrops, can you find Nell’s secret route?
