🎨 How to color it

Color the girl's hat straw yellow, her overalls denim blue, the picket fence soft white, and the tulips a mix of coral, lavender, and red. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny vine leaves on the fence, the watering-can flowers, and the butterfly wings, then switch to broader strokes for the shed and sky. Try making the water streams pale blue near the spout and almost silver where they land among the tulips.

Under the straw-bright morning, Maris carried the dented watering can to the far bed, where the tulips stood tight as little secrets. She wanted one open bloom before the evening bell, one sign that the garden had accepted her rows. But the can only coughed—plip, plip—and the water smelled faintly of rain trapped in old metal.

She shook it. Something scraped inside. Not a pebble, not a beetle. From the spout slid a curled strip of blue paper, dry as moth wings. It read, Water remembers the hands that need it. Pour where the path feels warm. Maris pressed her boot to the dirt. The straight path was cold, but the winding one by the fence held the sun like a secret under a blanket.

“This way, then,” she whispered. The can grew heavy, and when she tipped it, silver streams ran exactly where the warm path curved. Tulips loosened, daisies nodded, and even the bird on the border stopped to listen. Ever since, garden paths have curved toward the place where someone belongs; next time you see the little watering can, check whether its spout is still pointing the way.
