Every day, Pip slid only as far as the napkin stack, where the counter smelled like warm bread and oregano. He wanted to reach the shiny deli rail, but the clatter of trays made his cheese tremble. Then one day, a pepper shaker rolled out from under a menu and bonked his crust. “Race you to the rail!” it rattled.
Because of that, Pip skidded after it, past olive bowls that went clink-clink and a puddle of sauce that tugged at his tip. Because of THAT, he had to hop onto a wooden spoon and ride it like a seesaw while the pepper shaker spun in circles. At last, Pip took one small brave slide and bumped the rail with a ding. Next time you spot his drippy cheese and round pepperoni, can you find the crust that bonked first?
