🎨 How to color it

Try sandy tan for the gerbil, sky blue for the water bottle, orange for the food bowl, and golden yellow for the seed pile. Use chunky crayons or markers for the gerbil’s big body and the wide tunnel; it is okay if little hands color over the lines. For a fun secret, make the tail tip a bright paintbrush red, like it brushed sunshine on the seeds.

Psst—Juno had a tiny challenge. She would not nibble until she heard one seed go tap. The cage smelled like hay and warm wood. Her whiskers went tickle, tickle, but she waited.

Tap! A stripey seed rolled from the bowl. Juno hopped, pushed it with her nose, and made one neat pile. “Mine for later,” she squeaked. Ever since, gerbils save seeds in little heaps, because Juno waited for tap, tap—can you spot the pile she started?
