🎨 How to color it

Color the pet rat soft pearl gray, the cup buttery yellow, the knotted rope tan, and the clover petals a mix of mint and lucky green. Use sharp colored pencils for the tail rings, rope twists, whiskers, and tiny star points so the narrow spaces stay crisp. Try a gentle pink-to-gray blend inside the ears and along the curled tail to make the rat feel warm against the leafy decorations.

Under the craft-room shelf, Lark woke to the soft clink of a cup being set down. Chamomile water. He could smell honey and hay in the steam, and his whiskers trembled. His hammock was warm, but the cup sat beyond the play rope, past the paper stars and the clover charms hanging from a green wire vine. Lark tucked his tail close and started out.

The rope scratched his paws, and one loose thread snagged his claw. By the time he tugged free, the cup had cooled. Then a voice as thin as dust said, “Please—just one drop.” A tiny house spider clung to the rim of a wooden bead, her web silvered with thirst. Lark looked at the cup, then at the spider’s shaking legs. He dipped one paw, let a bead of chamomile gather, and held it out without calling to anyone.

The spider drank. In thanks, she spun a smooth silk bridge over the roughest part of the rope. Lark carried the cup home slowly, with less water but a lighter chest. If you spot him with that cup, maybe the quietest drop is still shining there.
