🎨 How to color it

Color the mouse soft dove gray, the wooden house honey brown, the cheese wedge buttery yellow, and the tufts of grass spring green. The mouse’s big ears, round door, cheese holes, and wood-grain lines are easy to fill with chunky crayons, and staying inside every line is optional. Add a silly surprise by making each cheese hole a different color, like the mouse has found rainbow Swiss.

Under the warm fence light, Quincy set himself a very important challenge: nibble seven neat crumbs from the cheese and leave them in a trail to his tiny wooden house. He tapped each crumb with his paw. One, two, three—crunch, sniff, squeak! The cheese smelled salty and sunny, and Quincy’s whiskers wiggled with mischief. “Seven crumbs, no more!” he whispered, then took one extra nibble because counting made him hungry.

A beetle in a blue button hat marched out from behind the grass. Then two pill bugs rolled over like little gray marbles. Quincy blinked. His secret crumb trail had become a supper path for very small guests. He quietly pushed the biggest piece closer, pretending nobody could see his generous paws. By moonrise, everyone had a bite, and Quincy had exactly seven crumbs left on his nose. If you peek at his smile, you might guess who made the crumby surprise.
