🎨 How to color it

Color the butterfly’s body in deep espresso, the upper wing petals in peacock teal and orchid purple, the tiny stars in pale gold, and the large lower flower in coral and rose. Use sharp colored pencils for the nested petals, curls, and dotted antennae, working from the wing centers outward so your hand does not smudge the fine lines. For a quiet dramatic twist, shade the left wings slightly cooler and the right wings slightly warmer, as if moonlight and sunrise meet at the butterfly’s spine.

The story behind this coloring page

Ivara’s Perfect Center — Under the inkglass roof, Ivara touched one antenna to the cold pane and vowed to cross the conservatory without breaking the pattern of shadow beneath her. Read the full story →

Under the inkglass roof, Ivara touched one antenna to the cold pane and vowed to cross the conservatory without breaking the pattern of shadow beneath her. Each turn smelled of damp leaves and sleeping lilies; each step had to answer its twin. At the center fountain, where water clicked like hidden beads, she found the secret: the world did not ask her to choose left or right. It opened only when both sides moved together. Since then, butterflies carry mirrored wings, so every wandering body can feel exactly where it belongs.
