🎨 How to color it

Layer emerald and deep teal across the beetle’s faceted shell, use amber on the round antenna tips, and add graphite gray to the jointed legs. Because the body is built from sharp triangles and narrow bands, color one mirrored section at a time with fine pencils to keep the symmetry clean. Try a subtle jewel effect by making the central shell triangles lighter than the outer panels, as if the beetle is lit from within.

Under the mineral arcade, Pax polished a dull coat button he carried beneath his shell and practiced one brave tap: tick. He wanted to make the sound where others could hear it, though the crystal floor made every footstep laugh too loudly. The tap became two, then three, and the button answered with a silver bonk that made a line of solemn ants hiccup. Only then did Pax notice the “button” was a moonbell from the arcade’s old clock, escaped and pretending badly. He rang it once more, small and wicked, and the whole ceiling glittered back: tick.
