🎨 How to color it

Color the silkworm caterpillars creamy ivory, the mulberry leaves deep green, the berry clusters blackberry purple, and the moth wings pale gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the leaf veins, wing stripes, and tiny caterpillar spots, then switch to smoother strokes inside the larger leaves. Try a soft yellow glow around the hanging cocoon so the nearby branch and moth feel tucked into evening light.

The story behind this coloring page

Nim Finds the Warm Thread — Under the mulberry arbor, Nim chewed the edge of his favorite leaf until only a green moon was left. Read the full story →

Under the mulberry arbor, Nim chewed the edge of his favorite leaf until only a green moon was left. The nursery was quiet, and the smallest silkworms needed one tender bud before night cooled the branches. Nim tucked a pale silk strand around his middle and climbed away from his safe leaf, into the rustle of bigger leaves and the sweet, dusty smell of berries.

A wind-swish flipped him onto a bare twig. His silk caught, but the tug cost him half his precious strand. He crept on anyway, past a sleeping moth with powdery wings and a cocoon that rocked like a tiny lantern. At the branch tip, the bud he wanted was gone. Only a curled brown-edged leaf hung there, the kind everyone passed without tasting.

Nim nudged it open. Inside lay a pocket of warmth, wrapped around three tender new buds and a shining thread finer than spider silk. “You waited for us,” he whispered. He carried the buds home, and the hidden thread hummed softly against him, as if the arbor itself knew his name. Next time you spot the curled leaf near the cocoon, see if it still looks like a green moon.
