🎨 How to color it

Color the jack-o’-lantern bucket pumpkin orange, the candy wrappers grape purple and lemon yellow, the haunted house slate gray, and the crescent moon pale silver. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny wrapper words, bat wings, tree leaves, and narrow candy stripes, then switch to markers for the bucket’s broad curved panels. Try making the path fade from lavender near the house to misty blue behind the candy, so the sweets feel warm against the cool Halloween night.

Every evening in October, Quinn lined up fallen leaves beside the pumpkin lane and counted them by moonlight: crunch, whisper, crunch. He wanted to invent a game that could make waiting feel like magic. One night, he named it Silver Stripe: no one could touch a candy until the moon painted one pale line across it.

At first, nothing happened but the chilly smell of leaves and waxy wrappers. Because Quinn waited, the bats stopped flapping and hung like commas in the sky. Because of that stillness, a shy ghost drifted from the crooked house to watch the bucket grin. The longer everyone waited, the brighter the wrapped sweets seemed to glow.

Finally, a thin moonbeam slid over one lollipop, then another, then the whole heaping pile. “Now,” Quinn whispered, and the wrappers crackled like tiny applause. If you follow the winding path with your eyes, can you spot where the Silver Stripe game has just begun?
