🎨 How to color it

Color the jellyfish bell in pale lavender, its long tentacles in soft rose, the branching corals in coral orange, and the striped fish in sunny yellow with navy bands. Use sharp colored pencils for the many thin tentacle lines and coral branches, then switch to broader strokes for the open water around the bubbles. Try fading the background from light turquoise at the top to deeper blue near the reef floor so the pale jellyfish seems to glow.

Under the hush of the deep reef, Vela counted bubbles rising past her bell: one, two, three, all clear as glass. She wanted one silver bubble for her empty glow pouch, the kind old currents sometimes left after midnight. When none appeared, she drifted beyond her safe sponge arch, past clicking shells and corals that brushed her tentacles like tiny combs.

A shrimp with moon-white whiskers stepped from a cracked vase sponge. “Wait where the fish turn twice,” it whispered, then vanished under sand. Vela waited through cold green shadows, through nibbling fish, through the ache of holding still. At last a school darted left, right, left again, and a silver bubble rose from the reef floor, smelling faintly of rain.

Vela carried it home, but the pouch did not glow. Instead, the bubble opened with a soft pip, releasing a map of pale dots toward a hidden spring. Next time you spot the bubbles beside the corals, follow the one that looks silver.
