Between the soft sea plants of the lagoon nursery, Tula carried a tiny clear pebble under her bell. It was no bigger than a bubble, but when she held it up, the water looked rounder and brighter. She drifted beside Ollo and Nemi, whispering, “What do you think it sees?” Bloop, bloop, bloop went the bubbles, climbing past their cheeks like little silver thoughts.
The bubbles rose from every leafy stem. Some were small as seeds, some fat as grapes, and Tula chased their shapes with her pebble-window. Then she noticed the twist: through the pebble, the bubbles were not just bubbles. They made pictures—leaf, curl, moon, hello. The sea plants were talking in round words. Tula, Ollo, and Nemi floated very still, listening with their eyes. Next time you spot the bubbles between the three friends, can you find the first hello?
