Every afternoon, Rory rolled from the market with bags that smelled like apples, bread, and leafy greens. In the back, he kept one ribbon-tied carrot for the soup cook at the corner café.
Until one windy day, the street sign spun with a clank-clank, and Rory stopped at the wrong curb under a rustling tree. Because of that, a squirrel peeked down at the carrot. Because of THAT, Rory stayed still while leaves skittered over his tires, waiting for the sign to turn back.
