Every day, Tavik stamped four slow circles around the parade stone, shook his tiny cracked seed pod, and sent the grassland herd tromping toward breakfast. Rikka the ankylosaur called it “the world’s smallest drum,” which made Tavik snort warm fern-breath through his nose. He didn’t mind. The pod had clicked in his nest before he was tall enough to see over the reeds.
Until one day, the pod went clack-clack-PING and bounced from his chin to the dust. Because of that, Tavik bent low to catch it, and his tail accidentally swept a line through the pebbles. Because of THAT, the little horned twins thought he had drawn a new parade route and marched off, honking proudly, straight toward the prickly burr patch.
“Not that way, noodle-necks!” Tavik boomed, then lifted his head high enough to spot a strip of sweet grass beyond the acacia. Finally, he rattled the pod in a silly cha-cha rhythm, led everyone around the burrs, and arrived exactly where the herd’s laughter fit the wind. If you can spot Tavik standing tall, imagine the tiniest clack in all that open sky.
