🎨 How to color it

Color the dinosaur mint green, the raincoat sunny yellow with orange wavy stripes, the cap sky blue, and the puddles pale aqua. Use chunky crayons or markers for the big coat, hat, and puddle shapes, and don’t worry if little hands color over the splash lines. Try making each raindrop a different blue so the storm feels gentle and playful.

Every day, Sorrel put on his striped raincoat and counted puddle sounds. Plop, plip, plash. He wanted to hear the tiny silver plink that came only after the rain got quiet. He stood very still, smelling wet grass and mud, until one day a little cloud bumped his cap.

Because of that, the cloud sneezed mist all over the meadow. Because of THAT, every puddle began to hum softly, like jars in a window. Sorrel waited, foot lifted, while the hum grew thin and bright. At last—plink! “There you are,” he whispered, and set his foot down with one happy splash. Next time you see his raised boot, can you imagine waiting for that same plink?
