🎨 How to color it

Color the mermaid gnome’s hat and tail in teal and sea-green, the shell crown in pearly pink, the trident in golden yellow, and the coral branches in orange-red. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny tail scales and coral fingers, then switch to broader strokes for the sweeping beard and long seaweed ribbons. Try making the bubble cluster fade from pale aqua to clear white so it feels like it is rising past him.

Past the tickle of kelp and the salty snap of popping foam, Corvin tucked his trident under one arm and began his dare: guide one wobbly bubble trail all the way through the reef without letting a single bubble burst. He flicked his tail through the cool green water, counting softly as tiny fish zipped beside him like silver commas. “Steady, little moons,” he whispered, nudging the bubbles between coral antlers and curling seaweed.

The trail grew fatter near the old shell garden. Instead of drifting upward, the bubbles lined themselves in loops and dots, tapping Corvin’s beard with soft blup-blup sounds. Inside each bubble shimmered a picture: a cracked hinge, a sandy doorstep, a pearl rolled too far under a rock. Corvin laughed so hard his crown shells rattled. These were not ordinary bubbles. The shy clams had been sending errands to anyone careful enough to follow them.

So Corvin turned his dare into delivery. He lifted stones, brushed sand from doorways, and tucked pearls back where they belonged, leaving before any clam peeked out. By sunset, a whole sparkling path rose behind him, and if you trace those round bubbles now, you may find the secret thanks floating past the tickle of kelp.
