Under the tallest grass blades, Vada lined up three pebble dots in the sand. Before the moon current turned, she would follow three jellyfish glows and bring back proof from beyond her safe green room. The water smelled sharp as cut cucumber, and the kelp brushed her arms like soft warning fingers. “Just to the third,” she whispered.
The first jellyfish pulsed like a lantern behind fog. The second led her through bubbles that tickled her cheeks. At the third, a curtain of sting-threads shimmered across the path. Vada’s throat went tight. She unhooked one bright scale-ribbon from her tail and let it drift into the threads; they curled around it, opening a narrow blue door.
Beyond it, a stone hummed with tiny marks that shone only when jellyfish passed. Vada pressed one sandy finger there and felt the tide spell its name. She returned with no ribbon, but with the secret of where tomorrow’s current would begin; can you find the three quiet guides above her as she leaves the tallest grass blades?
