Every evening, after the lanterns blinked on, Kiro raced across the tile roofs playing his new game: Moon-Tag. He would tag a chimney, a weather vane, or a sleeping cat’s shadow, then leave one small helpful thing behind where nobody would see. A tied shutter. A swept gutter. A rice cake tucked beside the watchman’s tea.
Until one windy night, his scarf snagged a loose bell-chime and sent it skittering down the roofs—clink, clank, cling! Because of that, the night watchman looked up just as sparks jumped from a baker’s crooked chimney. Because of THAT, Kiro changed the rules of Moon-Tag on the fly: tag the danger first, help second. He sprang roof to roof through the peppery smoke and slapped a wet cloth over the hot tiles.
The baker never saw who saved the oven shed. “Just the wind,” she murmured, finding her door latch fixed too. Kiro grinned behind his mask and bounded toward the next moonlit roof; can you spot the scarf that made the bell-chime sing?
