🎨 How to color it

Color Moses’ robe sandy beige, the burning bush leaves olive green, the flames golden yellow and orange, and the rocky ground warm tan. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the large robe, rocks, and flame shapes, then let a grown-up help with the smaller leaves if needed. Try making the flames brightest near the bush branches, as if the light is glowing around Moses’ waiting sandals.

Across the desert hollow, Neri followed a tiny ting-ting sound between warm stones and scratchy grass. He carried one loose sandal strap to mend before sunset. The air smelled like dust and sheep wool, and the mountains looked purple at their edges. Then he saw a man kneeling near a bush full of fire, with sandals set carefully on a flat rock. The leaves shone green inside the flames.

Neri stood very still. The ting-ting was not a bell at all. It was the little buckles on the man’s sandals, trembling when the quiet voice said, “Take off your sandals.” Then the wind moved through the bush, and Neri heard the same words again in the leaves—soft, crackly, bright. He slipped off his own sandals too. The ground felt warm, not hot, like bread just lifted from a cloth. If you peek at the flat rock, maybe the sandals are still listening.
