Every night, Pippa tapped three berries with her toes—plink, plink, plink—then watched the stars without waking the sleeping leaves. She wanted a game big enough for her whole branch. One night she invented Star-Hop: blink at a star, hop once, hoot soft, and freeze. But her first hop shook the twig, and the berries bounced like tiny drums.
Because of that, a beetle popped out of the bark and clicked, “Again!” Because of that, two moths swooped in circles, and the branch smelled sweet and leafy from all the wiggling. Soon Pippa’s joy felt too big for one owl’s chest. At last she tucked her wings, closed her eyes, and let everyone take turns hopping under the moon.
