🎨 How to color it

Color number 10’s striped jersey in royal blue and white, make the goalkeeper’s kit sunny yellow, and shade the stadium lights silver with a soft gray net. Use sharp colored pencils for the crisscrossed goal net and the small crowd shapes, then switch to broader strokes for the open grass. Try giving the ball one bright red panel so it feels like the special spot everyone is watching.

Under the tunnel lights, Jalen rubbed the red leather panel tucked inside his sleeve until it squeaked. He wanted one clean shot for Aunt Tavi, who had sewn that panel from her first soccer ball and whispered, “Take me to the loud part.” The stadium waited beyond the doorway, smelling of rain on grass and roasted peanuts. Jalen stepped out, and the roar rolled over him like warm surf.

At the penalty mark, his knee bumped the ball. The little red panel slipped free and fluttered onto the turf. Jalen could have hidden it again, but the goalkeeper saw it and touched two fingers to his own wrist tape. For a breath, the giant place went soft: net strings humming, floodlights buzzing, cleats pressing into wet blades. Jalen placed the panel beside the ball instead of in his sleeve. “This one’s for all of us,” he said.

He ran, struck, and the ball flew low, kissing the inside post before the net snapped back with a happy thump. Jalen didn’t race away alone. He picked up the red panel, held it high, and the stands answered in one huge, shared shout. If you find the ball at his foot, imagine that tiny red promise resting beside it, ready for the loud part.
