Every day, Vero sat by the boot bench and kept one towel dry for his warm, clean snout. Drip, drip, went the wet coats; squeak, squeak, went the boots.
Until one day, a gray moth bumped the door glass, all rain-speckled and still. Because of that, Vero wrapped the towel around his own shoulders and listened. Because of THAT, he heard a tiny tap-tap under the hook.
