Under the smooth cave roof, Cosmo pressed his new cloth paw against the floor. Thump! He had sewn it from scrap blanket pieces, with four bumpy toe pads and one squishy middle pad. “Paw-Print Parade!” he announced, swishing his tail. He tapped once by the flowers, twice by the rock shelf, and three times near the little lantern, which smelled faintly of warm oil and dust.
The game grew sillier. Cosmo made a tiny thump for a mouse, a huge thump for an elephant, and a wiggly thump for a worm wearing socks. Then the lantern flame blinked and made its own golden paw shape on the stone. Cosmo stared, then giggled so hard his mane bounced. He had made the paw, but the light had learned the game too. If you peek at the cave floor, maybe you can find where Cosmo’s Paw-Print Parade began with one proud thump.
