🎨 How to color it

Color the giraffe buttery yellow with caramel spots, make the plaid scarf cranberry and cream, and give the cushion soft teal stripes beside sage-green window plants. Use sharp colored pencils for the scarf grid and small spots, then switch to smoother marker fills for the giraffe’s long neck and the broad cushion panels. Try a pale blue wash behind the tall window lines so the warm scarf looks extra snug.

The story behind this coloring page

Juniper’s Borrowed Window Key — Under the tall sunroom glass, Juniper tucked her hooves under the striped cushion and turned a tiny brass key in her mouth. Read the full story →

Under the tall sunroom glass, Juniper tucked her hooves under the striped cushion and turned a tiny brass key in her mouth. It did not open any door she had ever seen, but it clicked against her teeth like a secret. She wanted to hang it back on the fern hook before Aunt Orla counted the plant tags, because—and keep this between us—the key was really the first thing that had made the big room feel like hers.

The hook waited across the chilly tile. Juniper stepped down. Oof. The floor nipped her toes, and her scarf fringe dragged through a fallen leaf with a dry shff-shff. At the plant bowl, a snail had parked itself right on the hook, silver trail shining in the morning light. “Excuse me,” Juniper whispered. The snail did not hurry. So Juniper paid her small price: she let the snail ride on her warm scarf while she looped the key around the hook.

When she climbed back onto the cushion, the key was gone from her mouth, but the scarf held a new gleaming trail shaped like a little road home. Next time you spot Juniper by the window, see if that secret shine still says exactly where she belongs: under the tall sunroom glass.
