🎨 How to color it

Try strawberry pink for the scoops, cherry red for the stemmed cherry, lemon yellow for the smiling flowers, and sky blue for the little bows. Use sharp colored pencils for the waffle-cone diamonds and checkered scoop, coloring alternate spaces slowly so the pattern stays crisp. For a preppy twist, make the checkerboard mint green and white, then add tiny gold accents to the stars and hearts.

The story behind this coloring page

Every day, before the tasting tent burst open, Gia tucked a square velvet token into her apron and tapped its stitched grid: tap-tap, turn. It had been left in her baby basket, no bigger than a cracker, and it smelled faintly of vanilla smoke. She wanted to know why its black-and-white squares matched no game in the fairground.

Until one day, the token grew warm beside the biggest cone on the counter. Because of that, Gia pressed it to a checkerboard scoop, and the scoop clicked like a lock. Because of THAT, the waffle diamonds on the cone slid apart, spilling a fizzy wind full of bows, flower faces, and star-bright crumbs. “Whoa—secret stair!” Gia laughed, chasing the crumbs down.

At the bottom waited a tiny brass door marked TAP-TAP, TURN. Gia set the velvet token in place, and the door opened onto a room of recipes written in checkers, not words. The first one read: Bring curiosity. She grinned, pocketed the token, and climbed back as the tent smelled of vanilla smoke again; next time you spot those neat little squares, can you hear them tap-tap, turn?
